The Central Kentucky Wildlife Refuge is situated a short drive from Danville and includes a 500-acre preserve that’s home to a wide variety of birds, plants and other wildlife, showcasing the varied natural beauty of the region. Five main trails traverse the refuge. Perhaps you’ll try the easy, half-mile Bluebird Trail, which circles Island Pond and wends through a meadow planted with warm-season native grasses. Or challenge yourself to the Ridge Trail, which leads you up and down three crests of Huckleberry Ridge.
