Pioneer Playhouse Theatre

Founded in 1950 by Col. Eben C. Henson and still operated by the Henson family today, Pioneer Playhouse is the oldest outdoor theatre in Kentucky. Come for one of Chef Tom’s famous hot dinners, see the Pioneer Village, visit the Palace of Sweets, then take in a play!

During their off season the Shelter House, Pioneer Playhouse’s indoor theatre, makes an excellent gathering place for events, including weddings. The facility is available to rent in March, April, May; September, October, November. Shelter House rental includes central heat and air, and holds up to 300 guests. Renters may come a few days early to set up, for an additional fee. Tables and chairs are available as well as the stage, stage lighting and a basic sound board. Pioneer Playhouse does not provide decorations or microphone equipment. No candles or flammable items may be used in decorations.
