Experience a piece of Danville’s rich history during this year’s Soul of 2nd Street Festival on, August 5th from 4-10 p.m. in historic Constitution Square.
Prior to the late 1960s Second Street in Danville looked much different than today. There you could find retail shops, medical offices, restaurants, and the Rev. O’Neal’s barbershop. This area was once a vibrant hub for the African American community. Despite facing adversity, Second Street thrived, establishing a tight-knit community that became the center of African American culture and commerce in Danville.
The Soul of 2nd Street Festival features photo displays, historical exhibits, food, and music that captures the heart and soul of Danville’s former 2nd street.

Take yourself back in time through displays, photos, storyboards, and art that will allow you to experience an important piece of Danville’s past.
Music
Soul of 2nd Street will feature a full line-up of musical performances featuring Carey Band, Robbie Houston, Renita Grey, Jessica Browning, and Southern Sons of Memphis.
Festival Kickoff
Get the party started early by joining in at Morley’s backyard on Friday, August 4th, from 7-10 p.m. for the Soul of 2nd Street Festival kickoff event and history conference.
