Thousands expected for 2024 Great American Brass Band Festival

For the 34th year, the Great American Brass Band Festival is set to transform the streets of downtown Danville into a symphony of sound, heralding the arrival of summer in central Kentucky. From May 30 to June 1, locals and visitors alike are invited to partake in this cherished June tradition, celebrating the spirit of community, culture, and, of course, free live music.

A Festival for All Ages

This free, family-friendly event promises an unforgettable experience, featuring captivating live bands and welcoming visitors from across the United States and even from overseas. It’s a chance to mingle with music enthusiasts and revel in the contagious energy that fills the air during this beloved festival.

Kickoff Events and Musical Delights

The festivities kick off on Thursday, June 30, with a Gallery Hop event on Main Street from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., followed by the Downtown Downbeat concert from 7 to 10 p.m. at Weisiger Park, right in front of the courthouse, featuring the bands Baja Yetis and The Swells.

Friday’s lineup includes the traditional Bayou and Brass event, relocated for 2024 to the main stage on the Centre College Lawn. From 5 to 10 p.m., attendees can groove to the tunes of performers like Mike Wade and the Nasty Nati Brass Band, Cincy Brass, McNasty Brass Band, and Lucky Chops.

Saturday: A Day Packed with Excitement

Saturday promises a jam-packed schedule of events, starting bright and early with the Run for the Brass at 8 a.m. at Millennium Park. Performances commence at 9 a.m. on the Centre College Lawn, followed by the lively parade down Main Street at 11 a.m.

Music lovers can then indulge in continuous performances at the Centre College Lawn, with the lineup extending well into the evening. For the younger attendees, the Kids Creation Station opens its doors at 12:30 p.m., offering a world of creative fun.

As the day transitions into night, the Great American Picnic unfolds on the Centre College Lawn from 4:30 to 11 p.m., offering a feast for the senses and a fitting finale to the festival.

Saturday’s musical lineup boasts an eclectic array of performers, including the 202nd Army Band, Sacred Winds Ensemble, Cincinnati Brass Band, Mariachi de Kentucky, Friends Big Band, Circle City Sidewalk Stompers, Advocate Brass Band, Empire Strike Brass, McNasty Brass Band, Lucky Chops, and No BS! Brass.
