A new walking-driving tour app has just been released for Danville-Boyle County.
This app was developed by Centre College and its students in collaboration with the Danville-Boyle County 250th Celebration Committee to commemorate America’s 250th Birthday. Noah Wallace and Garrett Urash from Dr. Michael Bradshaw’s “Mobile Apps For Good” class developed the app specifically designed for this walking/driving tour.
“This new app walks us through the past 250 years here in Boyle County, as it is an important story to tell and one that should never be forgotten”, says Tony Wilder, Chairman of the Danville-Boyle County 250th Celebration Committee.
The app lists and directs the user to 87 sites throughout Danville, Perryville and Forkland that include the following categories: Architecture, African-American, Bourbon, Military, History, Religious and See & Do. All the user does is touch the site they are interested in and a map will come up with that site pinned. As well, a written and verbal description is included for each location.
“Historic places in our county have been well documented in the past,” says Janet Hamner, a committee member with the group that worked with Centre students on the app. “And now, this exciting new way to access the information has been created for our 250th Celebration.”
Everyone is urged to go to their phone’s app store and download the new app – it is listed in your iPhone or Android App Store as “Boyle County KY Historic Tour”.
Once you have downloaded and used the app, all users are urged to give it a five-star rating, which will increase its accessibility. Then, stop by the Visitors Center at Constitution Square (134 South Second Street) to receive free prizes. For downloading the app, you will receive an America’s 250th Boyle County pin and for also giving it a five-star rating, you will receive a free 250th coffee mug.
You have between now and June 30 to claim these prizes, or while supplies last.
