Juneteenth freedom day events are part of this year’s Boyle County’s America 250 celebration, with opportunities to participate on June 18 and 19.
On June 18, there will be a “Faith & Freedom Documentary Screening” from 6-7:30 p.m. at Vision Worship Center, located at 704 Holladay Drive. A spaghetti meal will be provided. Register to attend by emailing visionworshipcenter23@gmail.com
On June 19, a community event and lunch will be held from 11-12:30 p.m. at the Jennie Rogers Community Center on East Main Street in Danville. Keynote speaker will be Dr. Anthony Jones from Centre College. There will be additional entertainment, reading of a city proclamation, a youth activity station, black national anthem led by Ava Berry, lunch sponsored by the City of Danville, along with free shirts and bracelets.
Then, from 6-10 p.m., there will be a Juneteenth Freedom Festival from 6-10 p.m. at Michael M. Smith Memorial Park in Danville. Evening activities include live music with DJ Michael Fly, a table and tent decorating contest, Juneteenth trivia and bingo, line dancing, bounce houses for kids, old school games, and hair braiding and hair cuts. Come and enjoy free food sponsored by parks and recreation, along with free shirts and bracelets.
