Danville ground zero for Honda Gold Wing event

Get ready for some two-wheeled fun.

The Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) of Kentucky will hold their annual Kentucky District Blast Rally in Danville from Aug. 25-27, with events taking place at The Showroom, located at the intersection of Lebanon Road and the South Danville Bypass.

The GWRRA of Kentucky is made up of Honda Gold Wing motorcycle owners from throughout the state. Their District Blast in Danville will include members from Kentucky, as well as members of GWRRA chapters from other nearby states. They will hold events Thursday-Saturday at the Showroom, as well as rides in and around the Danville area while they are here.

The theme for 2022 is “Hawaiia Doin’ in Kentucky” and includes a luau on Friday night, Aug. 26. They are also offering an Advanced Rider Course, a Trike Rider Course and a Medic First Aid Course on Sunday, Aug. 28.

The group selects a new host city for the District Blast every 3-4 years. Kendall Clinton, executive director of the Danville-Boyle County Convention and Visitors Bureau, made a presentation to the group in early 2019, proposing Lawrenceburg as their host city when he was tourism director there. The group decided earlier this year to move on from Lawrenceburg and choose a new host city, then contacted Clinton to ask if Danville could host them. He has assisted the group with finding their venue, lodging, and continues to assist with other requests.

“Having worked with GWRRA before, I knew this would be a good group to bring to Danville,” Clinton said. “They are friendly folks who promote rider safety and their motorcycles are so quiet that you probably won’t hear them when they are out riding around, enjoying our community.”

GWRRA of Kentucky invites all motorcyclists to join them. You can register onsite for the rally on Thursday, Aug. 25th, Friday, Aug. 26th, and Saturday Aug. 27th from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Full registration or daily registration fees apply. They are also looking for local vendors interested in setting up booths to sell merchandise.  For more information about attending or being a vendor, go to www.gwrraky.com
