Danville tourism funds awarded to help market local events

The Danville-Boyle County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) board of directors recently awarded a total of $12,000 to five local organizations to help market and advertise their events and activities.
The CVB designates a portion of its annual budget to a grant/sponsorship program designed to aid special events and organizations in Boyle County that promote tourist activity. The primary purpose of this grant is to increase visitation to Boyle County. Funding applications are reviewed by the CVB board at their July and January meetings.
Five funding applications were submitted to be reviewed at the July 21 meeting and the board voted to award funds to the following organizations:

  • Junction City Matters – This group has taken over planning and organization of the Balloons Over the Bluegrass Festival at the Danville-Boyle County Airport, which will take place Sunday, Aug. 24. The board awarded $1,500 to help advertise and market the festival.
  • Danville’s Small Town Christmas – On Saturday, Dec. 6, this group will put on a Christmas festival in Danville – now in its third year – which will include visits with Santa, live musical performances, vendors, and more. The board awarded $1,500 to help advertise and market this event.
  • Forkland Community Center – The community center’s board was awarded $1,500 to help advertise the 53rd Forkland Heritage Festival and Revue, which will be held Oct. 10-11 on the grounds of the Forkland Community Center.
  • Main Street Perryville – The Main Street program was awarded $5,000 for the Perryville Commemoration: Troops, Turtles & Traditions event (Oct. 3&4) and Perryville Christmas: Songs of the Season (Nov. 29).
(Aly Huff, executive director of Main Street Perryville, accepts a check for $5,000 to advertise and market events coming up in Perryville this fall.)
  • Art Center of the Bluegrass – The Art Center requested funds to help pay for brochures, radio advertising and digital marketing and was awarded $2,500 to go towards those needs.
(Art Center of the Bluegrass’ Sarabeth Graham, development director, and Stacie Barton, communications director, accept a check for $2,500 to help advertise events and programming at the art center.)
