What’s Inside the First Issue?

The inaugural fall edition highlights several of the places, events and experiences that make Danville and Boyle County worth exploring.

Norton Center for the Arts: Big Performances in a Small Town

Located on the Centre College campus, the Norton Center for the Arts has brought nationally and internationally recognized performers to Danville for more than 50 years. Its history includes legendary entertainers and artists such as Dolly Parton, ZZ Top, Ray Charles, Yo-Yo Ma, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Tony Bennett, the Pointer Sisters, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and Willie Nelson.

The fall issue takes a closer look at this important cultural attraction and the performances that continue to bring audiences to the area.

Forkland Festival: Celebrating Appalachian Heritage

Head south into the knobs for the Forkland Festival, one of the region’s longest-running celebrations of Appalachian heritage. Visitors can experience handmade crafts, traditional country cooking, music, local history and the distinctive character of a small community coming together to celebrate its roots.

Perryville: Bringing Civil War History to Life

Each fall, Perryville commemorates the 1862 Battle of Perryville with a two-day celebration featuring activities on Merchants Row and at the historic battlefield. Demonstrations, vendors and other activities offer opportunities to explore one of Kentucky’s most significant Civil War sites and learn more about the area’s past.

Discover the Dragon Fire Anagama Kiln

The first issue also introduces readers to the Dragon Fire Anagama Kiln, a 30-foot-long, Japanese-style wood-fired kiln located in Danville. The Arts Center of the Bluegrass plans to fire the kiln in October, filling it with pottery created by local artists and participants. It’s an unusual artistic experience that offers a glimpse into the craftsmanship and creativity found in Boyle County.

Holiday Happenings and a Three-Month Event Calendar

Looking ahead, Dose of Danville includes a preview of upcoming holiday activities and a two-page calendar filled with events scheduled over the following three months throughout Danville, Perryville and Boyle County.

From community festivals and live performances to seasonal celebrations and opportunities to explore local history, the calendar makes it easier to plan your next outing.
