Dragon Fire II, the second exhibit and sale of wood-fired pottery from the restored Jackson-Powell Anagama Kiln in Danville, KY, will be on display in the Kentucky Artisan Center front lobby gallery from November 7, 2026 through January 30, 2027.
Please join us for a free opening reception to celebrate the artistry and collaboration of the second kiln firing’s participants on Saturday, November 7th from 3:30-5:30 PM in the Kentucky Artisan Center front lobby.
Originally build in 1993 by the late Stephen Rolfe Powell and Dr. Mack Johnson, the large wood-fired anagama kiln in Danville follows traditional Japanese wood-firing constructions. Fires reaching temperatures close to 2,400°F travel up and through the sloped kiln over several days, covering hundreds of pieces in a wood ash finish at once. After falling into disuse in 2005 the kiln was successfully restored by the community surrounding the Art Center of the Bluegrass in Danville and fired for the first time after repairs in the spring of 2026. The kiln had its second successful firing this October and included work by dozens of artists from around the region. The Dragon Fire II exhibit features work from this most recent firing. Most works are for sale.
