Join Danville’s Scarlet Cup Theatre for an immersive, deeply moving production of the 2019 Pulitzer Prize finalist and Tony Award nominee. What the Constitution Means to Me resurrects the playwright’s 15-year-old self—who won her college tuition by winning constitutional debate contests across the country—to trace the profound, real-life impact of America’s founding document on four generations of women.
Brought to life through Scarlet Cup’s trademark intimate staging, this production strips away the abstract nature of democracy to explore how our rights, laws, and history shape our individual lives and local communities. The production stars veteran local actor Kristi Hughes as Heidi, Kevin Maples as the Legionnaire, and Danville High School senior Aubree Caldwell, who joins the stage for a live, fast-paced debate about whether the U.S. Constitution remains relevant today.
