Symposium on the Field at the Perryville Battlefield

October 17 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm

A series of FREE tours led by historians that will cover detailed aspects of the battle that took place at Perryville on October 8th, 1862.  Each tour will be 90-120 minutes in duration.  Wear comfortable shoes and bring water as there is often a fair amount of walking on hilly terrain! These tours will take place all over the Perryville, Kentucky area on public and at times private property.

Friday

4:30 P. M. –  BUSHROD! We will meet at the Bottom House where Darryl Smith will delve into the Buckeye Quaker and his Confederate brigade.

Saturday

9:00 A. M. – Derrick Lindow will lead us on an in depth look at Sterling Alexander Martin Wood’s Confederate brigade.

11:00 A. M. – Mississippians! Taylor Bishop will break down Jones’ Brigade on what will probably be the hilliest your of the weekend.

LUNCH – On your own. Pack or visit Perryville’s local restaurants.

2:30 P. M. – Artillery on the Field, Part I – This co-lead tour will focus on Federal and Confederate batteries involved with the Loomis Heights fighting. We will meet at the Dye House and hike to the two Confederate positions in that area before staging to Loomis Heights.

5:30 P. M. – Evening Meet and Greet at the historic Bottom House, hosted by the Friends of Perryville Battlefield. Books by some of the tour guides will be available for purchase. Dan Masters will be speaking on the impact of the Kentucky Campaign and the Battle of Perryville on the rest of the war.

Noonish – Tour debrief and ideas for next year.
