Experience some of Kentucky’s best sweets in Danville, Junction City

It was sweet victory for two Boyle County businesses as winners were announced recently in Kentucky Living magazine’s 2025 “Best in Kentucky” contest.
For the second time in recent years, Danville’s Burke’s Bakery was a top 3 finalist in the contest’s Best Bakery category. In 2023, Burke’s came in third place in the Best Bakery division. This year, however, Burke’s took the top spot ahead of second place winner Hadorn’s Bakery in Bardstown and third place winner Sweet Peace Bakery in Ashland.
Burke’s is well known in Danville and beyond, having started in the bakery business back in 1922. The family-owned bakery is a local fixture on Main Street in downtown Danville, known for its donuts, gingerbread men and other baked goods, as well as a long lines around the holidays with people packing the lobby and stretching down the sidewalk to buy rolls and bread to share with family.
The other local finalist is new to the Best in Kentucky contest. Junction City’s Sweets By Cindy received the second-place award in the Best Sweets Shop category, behind The Sweet Shoppe and Dessert Café in Hodgenville and ahead of third place winner Serendipity Kandy Kitchen in Shelbyville.
Sweets By Cindy is a full-service bakery known for cupcakes, cakes, “scooby scraps” and a variety of other sweet treats. Find out more about these and other sweet treat opportunities in Danville and Boyle County here.
