Finding places to stay and things to do when traveling with your four-legged companions can sometimes make planning difficult, but man’s best friend can have lots of fun during a visit to Danville and Boyle County.
From dog-friendly lodging to trails, events, businesses and other locations where canines are welcome, you’ll find lots of local options where you and your dog can enjoy your trip together.
Beds, for people and pets
One of the most important parts of planning a trip with your dog is having a place to stay when you get there. Though not all hotels and rental properties allow animals, there are several places in and near Danville where pets are welcome. Check with individual locations and verify their policy before making your reservation. Find a listing of available hotels and other rentals here.
Millennium Park dog park
You want to have fun on vacation, and so does your dog! So, make sure to take them to the dog park at Millennium Park, which has three nice sized, fenced in areas under mature shade trees where your dog can run and play, and maybe meet some new buddies.
To get to the dog park, enter Millennium Park on Cunningham Way, off Perryville Road, and take an immediate right when you enter the park, then follow the road to the end. Walk a short distance further along the asphalt trail until you get to the dog park.
If your dog just enjoys sticking with you for a leisurely walk, the two-mile trail that loops around the park is another good option.

Doggies Downtown
Finding a place to enjoy a meal with your dog can be a challenge, but several downtown restaurants have sidewalk seating where you can dine together. Some restaurants and shops have water bowls outside and you may even discover some dog treats outside the La Cosa Nostra and Copper & Oak restaurants. The central fire station on West Main Street keeps a bowl of fresh water out front by the sidewalk for thirsty pups walking by.
You can also get food to go and enjoy a pet-friendly picnic at downtown’s Constitution Square park. Or venture another block down and visit Morley’s Backyard, a neighborhood gathering spot known for craft beer, games, music and food. Morley’s loves dogs too!
Dogs Love Events Too!
If you enjoy events, there are several throughout the city and county where furry friends are always welcome. You’ll often see dogs strolling with their owners at the weekly Farmers Market at Constitution Square (Saturdays from 9-12 p.m., May-October), at the Downtown Downbeat concerts (first Thursdays from 6-9 p.m., May-October), the Great American Brass Band Festival (first weekend each June), the annual Forkland Festival in October, and at events in downtown Perryville like the annual Turtle Derby in July and commemoration events in October.

Trails for Paws
Along with the trail at Millennium Park, Danville has several other trails around town where you can adventure with your dog. You can also take them to the Perryville Battlefield Historic Site, which has 20 miles of trails to tackle, or the Central Kentucky Wildlife Refuge, which has several trails as well.

Kentucky Dock Dogs
While Danville and Boyle County certainly have a number of places where dogs are welcome, there is also a yearly event that is – literally – for the dogs.
The Kentucky Dock Dogs club hosts a yearly weekend of high flying, long jumping canine events that are open to the public and even your dog. The Showroom Summer Splash features dogs competing to see how high and how far they can jump into a large pool set up for the event. If you think your own dog might enjoy giving it a try, they have times set aside for that too.

Pet Shopping
Before you leave town – or if you need something while you are here – stop in at PetSmart, Petsense, Burkmann Nutrition or Feeders Pet Supply – for a new dog toy or anything else your precious pup may need. Who doesn’t like to have a souvenir to take home with them?
