Boyle County will be in the spotlight on a nationally-televised outdoors show nine times during the week of June 24.
Host Charlie Ingram, co-host Ben Ballou and the crew from the long-running show “Fishing University” visited Danville in the fall of 2023 and again the spring of 2024 to fish and film at Herrington Lake, a portion of which is located in Boyle County. The show has been around for almost 40 years and is aired throughout all 50 states and in more than 50 countries around the world. The Emmy award-winning bass fishing show reaches 120 million households.
“Fishing University is a great opportunity to show off Danville, Boyle County and central Kentucky to outdoor enthusiasts who may decide to come here to see Herrington Lake themselves,” said Kendall Clinton, executive director of the Danville-Boyle County Tourism Office, which sponsored the Herrington Lake episode. “When they do come, we hope they’ll also discover other locations to visit, like the Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site, Constitution Square in our beautiful downtown area, and some of our great restaurants.”
Though most of the show will focus on time spent at the lake, the tourism office also has a commercial produced by Fishing University that will air during the show, featuring spokesperson Maria Montgomery. And the cast and crew from the show spent some time at Boyle County High School talking to members of the school’s bass fishing team, which was recorded and will be included in the show as well.
Herrington Lake is a man-made 3,600-acre lake, created in 1925, and is the deepest in Kentucky. Fishing enthusiasts can catch bluegill, catfish, crappie, hybrid striped bass, largemouth bass, spotted bass, and white bass. It’s the perfect playground for many outdoor and recreational sports as well.
There are boat launches in Danville/Boyle County at the Coffey’s Cove Marina and the Gwinn Island Marina.
