Centre College’s Norton Center for the Arts recently installed “Beyond the Classroom: Survey of Works by Centre Studio Art Faculty,” a new art exhibition showcasing the extraordinary talents of Centre College’s studio art professors. This exhibition offers the public a unique opportunity to engage with the processes and professional practices of these four studio art educators who shape the artistic minds of Centre’s student body.
This free exhibition features works in various media: paintings by Andy Brown, ceramics by Stephanie Galli, glass works by Patrick Martin and photography by Michelle Burdine, all highlighting the vast creative range of these professional artists and educators.
In partnership with the Centre College Art Program, Beyond the Classroom brings the artists’ creative processes into the spotlight, offering students, faculty and community members an opportunity to experience firsthand the expertise and artistry that inform the faculty’s teaching. From personal explorations of identity and social issues to experimental and observational works, each piece reflects the faculty’s diverse approaches to art-making.
“Whether you know these artists as professors, colleagues or community members, Beyond the Classroom will surprise and inspire you,” said Steve Hoffman, executive director of the Norton Center. “It’s a great opportunity to see the talent behind the teaching, and we hope this exhibition fosters a deeper connection between our faculty and the community.”
Beyond the Classroom is free and open to the public Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. To schedule a group tour, contact the Norton Center box office at 859-236-4692. For more information on the exhibition or the Norton Center’s 2024/2025 season, visit nortoncenter.com.
